 Sculpting for Fun Workshops

at the

LGAC LOGO

(no sculpting experience needed)
Previously taught with visiting Australian artist Frances Taylor,  I am once again offering the composite stone sculpting  workshops.  The workshops will be held at the Looking Glass Artist Collective, 405 N. Lee Street, Salisbury, NC.
What is composite stone?  It is a mixture of different ingredients that, when set, becomes "stone-like" in that it is hard as a rock and suitable for use inside or out.  I will teach you in one day how to make the stone, prepare it for sculpting, plan your sculpture, then actually do a sculpture that you can take home and display inside or outdoors. Feel free to bring a picture with you for inspiration or I  will help you decide what to make.   I will have sculptures there that you can also use for reference.
These highly interactive workshops are suitable for beginners (even those who think they are not creative) and guaranteed to get your creativity flowing.!  Why not bring a buddy with you?  This class is great for craft clubs, art students, and anybody who loves being creative.   Class size is limited.   Cost $80 (includes all materials).   Please bring a bag lunch or walk up to the corner coffee shop for lunch.  I'll provide soft drinks and snacks.  The gift shop at the LGAC will also be open for browsing and purchasing.

GENERAL INFO
Wear old clothes (you will get dusty), closed in shoes and bring thick rubber gloves  (like yellow dishwashing gloves) , an old towel (to wrap your masterpiece in and to get it home safely ), and lots of enthusiasm!  There will be sculptures there for inspiration,  but if you have something in mind, please bring a picture.  Your sculpture will be approx. 14 inches x 9 inches x4 inches. It will be drying out when you take it home and feel quite heavy & solid.  At this stage you still have to be careful with it. You will leave this workshop having made a beautiful sculpture that you can display in your home or outside in your garden!

"I had the pleasure of attending a composite stone sculpture workshop last Saturday at the lovely studio of Cathy Matthews in China Grove.
The experience was so interesting and fun that I hope more PAC members will avail themselves of this unique opportunity to learn  this technique. Cathy and her Aussie friend, Frances Taylor, are excellent and patient teachers, and they explain all the phases of the process, so the you gain a real understanding of this way of sculpting.
Aside from a learning adventure from which one takes away a real finished sculpture, one is treated to a lovely home-cooked lunch, and afternoon tea.
I had a wonderful day and can only encourage others to try this new technique!"  JCW
